Once you're there
On-site
For those staying at the venue, there is a tennis court, outdoor pool, giant trampoline, and swings. For the tennis court, Varennes advises to bring your own equipment but you can buy buckets of balls on site and they can lend a few old rackets.
Varennes is located in the South-Eastern part of Burgandy, close to the most famous vineyards in France (Clos Vougeot, Romanée-Conti, Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint Georges, Gevrey-Chambertin, etc).
See their wine page for a more information on the region.
Nearby
There is a bakery outside the gates of the estate and many food stores/farms/supermarkets/churches nearby.
The nearest towns worth visiting are Pierre de Bresse (17th century castle and museum) and Seurre (medieval city center and big river sport complex).
The nearest big city is Beaune famous for its wineries and “Hospices” (a sumptuous medieval museum). Besides the gorgeous vineyard landscapes, other beautiful areas are also within easy reach including Chalon sur Saone, Dole, Louhans, Dijon, Arc et Senan (World Heritage Monument) and the Jura mountains. Chalon, Dole and Dijon are worth a day trip each as they feature charming medieval districts with beautiful old buildings very similar to “Le Marais” in the heart of Paris.
We'll keep adding information to this section as we find out more!
